A collection inspired by the life and times of the enigmatic Empress Noor Jahan, born Mehr-un-Nissa, who was regarded as the most powerful and influential woman of the 17th Century Mughal empire. Remarkably beautiful, Noor Jahan was not only a capable ruler, a warrior and an artist, but also significantly influenced the politics, economics, architecture, administration, fashion and culture of her time.
The collection pays homage to her spirit, intelligence and aesthetic sensibility. Handspun matka silks, handwoven silk weaves and raw silks in jewel tones are painstakingly hand embroidered with antique gold zardozi, gota and silver badla in eclectic patterns like the floral ‘boota’, ‘bel’, ‘parinda’ and ‘chaand-tara’ motifs. These are rendered onto traditional Mughal silhouettes, where each timeless ensemble has been discerningly curated for the contemporary woman.
